Industry & Community Involvement

Horwich Farrelly understands it has a responsibility to our profession, our clients, our people, our suppliers and the communities in which we operate.

In line with our business and strategic goals, we view Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as integral to achieving our growth objectives whilst retaining the culture and ethos on which we were founded. We are a dynamic organisation with a focus on reliability, trust and delivering results. We are friendly, approachable, and passionate and we care deeply about our people, our clients and wider society. Our CSR activities encompass four areas:

Our People

We believe that the success of our business lies in finding and nurturing the very best people in our industry. We prioritise creating, developing and retaining the skills needed to provide exceptional client service in our specialist field. Horwich Farrelly instills a company culture where flexible working and a relaxed dress code are the norm and where our partners champion an open door policy.

We aim to promote from within and create opportunities for training, development and personal growth. We take great pride in rewarding our people for a job well done with regular social events. We also combine our charity work with social activities where possible and can often be found in fancy dress!

In 2017 we were accredited by Best Companies as ‘Ones to Watch’ for the second year in a row and our approach to performance management was recognised by the HR in Law Awards 2017.

Industry & Community Involvement #1

Our Industry

Horwich Farrelly is actively engaged with industry-related organisations including:

  • The Law Society
  • Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA)
  • Association of British Insurers (ABI) (Associate Member)
  • Insurance Fraud Bureau (Affiliate Member)
  • Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL)
  • Insurance Fraud Investigators Group (IFIG)
  • Manchester Claims Association (MCA)
  • North West Legal Support Trust (NWLST)
  • Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx)

We are firmly committed to the development of our profession and believe that nurturing the next generation of legal professionals is essential. We were instrumental in the launch of the UK’s first legal apprentice scheme in 2013 which we use to bring a diverse range of talent to the firm. In 2016, the award-winning programme accepted a record 18 new apprentices and will continue to grow.

Industry & Community Involvement #2

Our Community

We are dedicated to charity fundraising and engage in numerous annual initiatives that are reflective of our diverse workforce, and have organised a wide range of events to raise both awareness and donations, often in partnership with our clients.

Since 2015 we have raised more than £35,000 for good causes including the Alzheimer’s SocietyMummy’s Star and Macmillan and North West Legal Support Trust.

We have also supported WellChild with employees volunteering almost 600 hours working on garden makeovers for families with complex care and health needs.

In 2017 we are committed to raising a minimum of £15,000 for our nominated charity – as voted for by our people – Rethink Mental Illness.

Our Future

We understand the importance of sustainability and this is considered in all aspects of business growth. We are conscious of the world’s limited natural resources and endeavor to do all we can as a professional services firm to make responsible buying decisions and to ensure the sustainability of our supply chain.

To achieve this we have targets around waste, water and carbon footprint reductions and engage our people around the behaviours that can achieve this –  in the workplace and at home.
