Horwich Farrelly puts best foot forward to raise £2,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society

October, 25, 2016

Employees of Horwich Farrelly have put their best foot forward at a series of nationwide ‘Memory Walks’, raising more than £2,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

A total of 31 Memory Walks have been taking place across the UK to raise money for a world without dementia and to remember loved ones who had Alzheimer’s. Colleagues from all six of Horwich Farrelly’s offices joined their local events, contributing a further £2,000 to the firm’s ambitious annual fundraising target of £10,000.

Alzheimer’s Society is Horwich Farrelly’s nominated charity for 2016 and participation in the Memory Walks is the latest in a series of fundraising activities the firm’s employees have enthusiastically joined.  With 225,000 people developing dementia in the UK each year, dozens of Horwich Farrelly employees, along with their friends, family and even their pets participated in walks in Cardiff, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Portsmouth and near Sheffield to help increase awareness of the condition and raise vital funds.

Currently there are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, a figure which is set to rise to a million by 2025. As the UK’s leading dementia support and research charity, Alzheimer’s Society offers vital help to those affected, as well as their carers, in addition to carrying out research into effective treatments, raising public awareness of dementia and keeping it on the Government agenda.

Aimée Maguet of Alzheimer’s Society says: “The Memory Walks have been a huge success, bringing together so many people who want to fight for a future without dementia. We couldn’t do our important work without the support of the public and companies like Horwich Farrelly, who help us raise awareness, as well as funds.”

Rob Barrett, Managing Partner at Horwich Farrelly, added: “This autumn, we were delighted to join the 100,000 people across the UK who took part in Memory Walks. The valuable funds we raised will help the Alzheimer’s Society continue its fight against dementia.

“The Memory Walks offered an ideal opportunity for everyone from all of our six offices to get involved.  This was a fun event with a poignant message.  Many of the walkers were remembering loved ones, which only highlights how important it is to support this worthwhile cause.

“Thanks to all our volunteers, we raised over £2,000, getting us another step closer to our £10,000 fundraising target for the year. With a few more exciting events, including a Christmas Santa Dash, we’re hoping to smash that target and do our best for the Alzheimer’s Society.”
