Horwich Farrelly raises £4,600 for Alzheimer’s Society

May, 23, 2016

Employees of Horwich Farrelly have raised an incredible £4,625 for Alzheimer’s Society after taking part in yesterday’s Great Manchester Run. The total was raised by a team of 25 employees from the company’s Manchester, Liverpool and London offices with one individual raising £1,061 by himself.

The charity was voted for by employees who are now embarking on a calendar of fundraising initiatives working in partnership with clients and suppliers. The achievement gets the firm off to a flying start as it looks to raise £10,000 over the year ahead for its newly-nominated charity. In addition to encouraging donations, the firm will be looking to raise awareness of the charity’s work and the issues around dementia.

Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading dementia support and research charity, carrying out important work in providing information and emotional assistance to those affected, as well as carrying out vital research to find a cure, improving public understanding of dementia and fighting for better Government support.

According to the charity 850,000 people are living with dementia in the UK with the figure set to rise to 1 million by 2025. Two thirds of the cost of dementia care is provided by patients and their families, with donations making up the remaining third.

Aimée Maguet of Alzheimer’s Society, commented: “We believe passionately that life doesn’t end when dementia begins. We are here for anyone affected by dementia, and we do everything we can to keep people with dementia connected to their lives and the people who matter most. To do this successfully, we rely on charitable donations from individuals and companies. Without the backing of companies such as Horwich Farrelly, we would not be able to continue our research or public awareness campaigns, meaning many more people would be likely to go undiagnosed and suffer unnecessarily without the help they need.”

Rob Barrett, Managing Partner at Horwich Farrelly, added: “Choosing a charity on which to focus our fundraising for each year is an important event in our calendar. Alzheimer’s Society does such crucial work and, with just 44% of people with dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland receiving a diagnosis, it’s more important than ever to raise public awareness of the condition.

“We have a target to raise £10,000 and are already planning a busy calendar of fundraising events including a summer football tournament and a memory walk. Everyone, at all levels across the business, is looking forward to getting involved and raising as much money as possible for this invaluable cause.”
