HF Limited is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Although we are a service industry, we recognise that our operations have an impact on the environment and are working to decarbonise as well as committing to meet all environmental compliance, legal and regulatory obligations.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Our baseline year is 1 January – 31 December 2022.

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Additional details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations

In 2025, we used a third-party carbon management software system to assist with our carbon footprint calculations. Therefore, values are different to our SECR disclosures, which will be updated in the next reporting cycle. We are also accounting for the acquisition of another business.

Emissions reduction targets

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets.

We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 1235.57 tCO2e by 2031. This is a reduction of 15.5%.

In December 2024, our Science Based Targets were validated by SBT, providing us with clear timelines to decarbonise.  We have a roadmap to ensure we meet our targets.

Near term:

  • Reduction in absolute Scope 1 emissions by 33.6% by 2028
  • Procurement of 100% renewable electricity by 2030
  • Reduction in absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from capital goods, fuel and energy related activities, waste generated in operations, business travel, employee commuting and upstream leased assets 33.6% by 2028

Long term:

  • Net Zero by 2050, meaning a 90% reduction in baseline emissions through decarbonisation, with the final 10% of emissions being offset.

Progress against these targets can be seen in the graph below:

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed carbon reduction initiatives

The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the 2022 baseline. The carbon emission reduction achieved by these schemes equate to 90.68 tCO2e, a 6%ge reduction against the 2022 baseline and the measures will be in effect when performing the contract.

  • Relocation to a BREEAM Excellent rated building in MediaCity for our Manchester headquarters, where almost 70% of our employees are based, resulted in an 84% decrease in emissions (LB) from our HQ operations.
  • Across our office portfolio we have downsized where possible and moved into more sustainable office buildings.  Environmental sustainability has played a key part in our decision-making process when moving premises.
  • We have introduced supplier specific emissions factors for 75 key suppliers to ensure we are calculating our emissions as accurately as possible and are using this information to make more sustainable decisions.
  • Our new Belfast office produces its own renewable energy from solar panels, reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
  • By area, 66% of our office space uses renewable electricity.
  • A commuter survey of our people carried out in 2025 will help improve our understanding of commuting and work-from-home related emissions.
  • In 2025, we disclosed to EcoVadis, our first submission since 2018, and achieved a Bronze, illustrating our commitment to ESG.
  • In 2023, we started a tree planting initiative with a third party through our employee benefits programme. To date HF employees have contributed to the planting of over 1,000 trees.

Future carbon reduction initiatives

In the future we hope to implement further measures such as:

  • Creation of the Sustainability Committee to discuss ESG initiatives and raise employee awareness of our environmental sustainability projects.
  • ISO14001 certification across all offices.
  • Charitable partnership or donations to a biodiversity charity to ensure we support ecosystems across the UK and Ireland.
  • Discussions with landlords to switch to renewable energy providers where possible.
  • Continuation of the downsizing of offices where appropriate, alongside relocation of offices into sustainable premises.
