Catastrophic & Complex Injury
HF Scotland

With over a decade of litigation experience, Annis advises clients across a broad range of sectors, with a particular focus on motor injury, employers’ liability, public liability, occupiers’ liability and fleet related risk.

Acting for a variety of insurer clients, she is highly skilled in conducting complex and high value litigation in both the Sheriff Court and the Court of Session. Her expertise includes fatal and life changing injury claims, with particular focus on spinal injuries, traumatic brain injury, complex psychiatric injury, claims involving children, chronic pain syndromes, and somatoform disorders. She successfully defended an eight-day Proof in the Court of Session in a claim involving chronic pain, a decision widely regarded as a landmark authority for defenders in cases involving chronic pain and somatoform disorders.

Annis’s extensive experience in handling catastrophic motor and employers’ liability claims arising from agricultural and rural accidents, includes incidents involving farm machinery and workplace transport. She frequently advises employer clients and fleet insured businesses on best practice, including risk management, accident investigation, and the development of defensible systems of work.

Annis works closely with insurer clients and insured employers to develop litigation and risk strategies at an early stage. She is adept at identifying liability and causation risks, constructing robust and proportionate defences, and proactively engaging in negotiations where appropriate, frequently achieving commercially successful early settlements in complex and high exposure claims.
